We can’t believe it’s the middle of July already, so we’re giving you 6 easy steps to having the best summer ever. We get it, the point of the summer is to slow down and relax, however, it’ll be more relaxing once you have a plan in place. We don’t want you saying “wtf did the summer of ’17 go” the day after Labor Day and have nothing to show for it but the tan you got walking to and from the subway. Follow these six steps and we promise you’ll be saying “I freakin rocked the Summer of 2017!”
#1 Make a list of all the things you want to do. Spend at least an hour or two researching what’s happening in your city, close by and where you might want to travel. Pick a few things that wouldn’t usually be on your list.
#2 Access and set a realistic budget for your activities. You may want to finally take that trip to Africa this summer, but if you haven’t planned for it you will definitely over pay in last minute airfare and lodging. Budget for those last minute Hamptons weekend invites, too. They get expensive between the room, transportation, and food. The city you live in will likely have loads of free events and concerts that you can take advantage of. Remember free is good.
#3 Get out of your comfort zone! Review the list and if at least half of it isn’t something you haven’t ever done or done recently – edit it immediately. In the nearly 14 years that I’ve lived in New York, I’ve never been to Coney Island. It’s #3 on my list.
#4 Invite folks to join you. And, not just the usual suspects you do everything with. Extend an invite to someone you’ve wanted to get to know better.
#5 Be flexible with the list. Summertime is about spontaneity and living in the moment, so don’t be too rigid. Be open to surprise inspiration and invites from friends and family.
#6 Live in the moment. Try to stay off your phones while you’re out exploring. Capturing the moment for social media isn’t necessary when you’re actually there. So, soak up the sun and fun this summer and start crossing some things off that bucket list!
