It’s 10 days into the new year and maybe you’ve already failed on your new year reboot. You said you’d go to the gym three times last week and you went a total of ZERO. Only me? Ok. It’s 10 days into the new year and I’ve already failed on my goal to go to the gym three times last week.
But! I still have three-ish more weeks to make it up to myself. And 11 months after that. You do too.
It’s easy enough to get excited in the beginning of the year about everything you want to do and then get discouraged when you don’t accomplish what you intended. I try to remember that persistence is my friend and perfection is my enemy.
So, if you didn’t start that cleanse on January 1st like you planned or already missed your first week of keeping your house clean, don’t give up! In fact, who says you can’t start a cleanse on January 11th? Or February 5th?
And if you need some inspiration to get your reboot into gear (again), here are some options to help you. Join them even if they’re already in progress because it’s about persistence, not perfection.
Apartment Therapy does an annual January Cure to help you get your home in order. There are daily tasks like reorganizing one of your junk drawers and making a list to be fixed throughout the year of all those annoying, small issues in your home you never get to. Hello, doorknob that’s too loose! Definitely a worth challenge even if it only gets you to throw out that can of lima beans that’s been sitting on your shelf since the first apartment you had after college.
Ordering out all the time can be tough on your wallet and your waistline. What about cooking more? Epicurious might be able to help with their #Cook90 Challenge. Three home-cooked meals every day for 30 days, but if it’s 20 home-cooked meals, who’s going to tell?
What about some whole body healthiness? Exercise, clean eating, confidence boosting, beauty routine revamping, and self-love fulfilling? It’s a tall order, but Well+Good has it all in one challenge. Last week was at home workouts from Tracy Anderson. This week is a food reboot.
Who doesn’t love a Netflix binge watch weekend, but is that all your doing with your downtime? When was the last time you picked up a book? You know those things that get made into your favorites movies and television shows? Popsugar has a year long book challenge to get you exploring some books you might not otherwise reach for like books by writers of color or by writers with a disability. And also a book with a cat on the cover? Right, so there’s a range. Or if you’re already a book love with a stack of unread book on your shelves, Goodreads can help you track the ones you actually read this year.
And if you want to change one thing that could help you be more productive overall? First things first, your morning. Friend of TSU and burgeoning guru, Joy Fejokou over at Habit Bliss has a 21 day routine to overhaul for your mornings that just started yesterday. Get in on it now and start your day better the rest of the year.
So, try one, two, or all of them and see what sticks or try one this month and bookmark another for next month. It’s your 2017, make it how you want it! As for me, I’ll be going to the gym this week…but maybe let’s say once instead of three times.
Persistence, not perfection!
