Bonjour shoppers! I was born on July 14th, which is La Fête Nationale (French National Day) or Bastille Day as it’s commonly known in English speaking countries. Of course, that must be the reason I love all things French. Oui?! For the first time ever, I spent my birthday in France this year which inspired this French gift guide. Though my trip was an awesome enough gift to myself, I think these would make excellent birthday gifts – even if they are belated. Hint. Hint.
It’s often said that French women are the epitome of style, and I agree. There’s something about the apparent ease in which they put themselves together that we all want to emulate. From the vavavoom sexiness of Bridgette Bardot to the simple elegance of Jean Seberg to the colorful and arty Julia Sarr-Jamois, Gallic women seem to be a sartorial step ahead of the rest of us. I love the La Ligne, a new apparel line from former Vogue editors. La Ligne translates to “the line” and everything from their collection includes “lines or stripes”. My favorite and most versatile item from the line is the Stripe Tee for $95. They even show you three ways to style it!
No one, and I mean no one can wear a scarf with such flair and ease as the French. No matter how much I try, I can’t quite seem to style any of my vintage scarves in the same manner. But I keep trying and so should you with this beautiful and multi-useful scarf from Ted Baker for $129. Perfect as a swimsuit bottom cover up, a wrap on a chilly summer night or a chic head wrap. Pair it with the La Ligne Stripe Tee, too.
Nothing seems like more of a French calling card than the indulgence of wearing a signature fragrance. I put on fragrance every day before I leave the house and every night before bed. The French are known for some of the most iconic fragrances and though there are thousands of ones to choose from, Chanel No. 5 is quintessentially French. It was launched in 1921 by Coco Chanel and is probably the most affordable Chanel you’ll find at only $100 for a 1.7 ounce bottle.
Here’s a bonus idea to help perfect your French style. The Love Style Life book, from my favorite blogger Garance Dore’ who hails from Corsica, France. Garance who is French cool girl personified chronicles her style, life and whimsical illustrations from her eponymous blog in the book. For less than $30 you’ll have all of the tips you need to be tres’ chic!
Happy shopping Mon Ami!
