Happy Friday ladies! Our Single Celebration Week is drawing to a close. I hope you will take some time this weekend to celebrate your own joys of being single. To give you some inspiration, here are my five reasons I think it’s great to be single.
1. You can travel, move or live anywhere you want to.
I lived in Brazil twice and the first time I asked my boss’s permission to go and the second time I didn’t ask anyone and just moved. For me the greatest joy of being single is the freedom of movement and decision-making. I moved out to California almost three years ago and when people ask me why I moved I say, “Because I wanted to.” And that is reason enough.
2. You don’t have to shave your legs all the time.
When I used to live in NYC I’d let my leg hair grow as insulation from the cold. Who cared that my legs could’ve been a stunt double for Chewbacca? I didn’t. Razors are expensive and all hair removal methods are time consuming, labor intensive and some are even painful. Ain’t nobody got time for that … especially in the winter!
3. You don’t have to cook every night.
To cook or not to cook, that is the question and my answer is … whatever I want it to be. There are no obligations to feed someone when I get home. Some days I want to make a fabulous meal that would rival any four star restaurant, but then there are those days when I want to go to town on some Buffalo wings I had delivered and wash it down with a big ol’ glass of wine. Okay, a glass or two. And if I want more, there’s no fight over the last chicken wing or judgment about that second glass of wine. Bon appétit, single ladies.
4. You don’t have the hassles of in-laws!
Ah, the bliss of not having to pretend to like your mother-in-law’s cooking (or her for that matter) or enduring slightly inappropriate hugs from your husband’s third cousin removed. Let’s be honest, sometimes it’s hard enough dealing with your own family, but adding another family into the mix gets complicated.
5. Letting Your Freak Flag Fly!
When you’re single and live alone there are no limits on what you can or cannot do. No shirt, no shoes, no panties … no problem. Impromptu dance parties at midnight? Go for it. Binge watching TV? It’s on. Want to spend all night playing Candy Crush? Have at it! Being single means that you never have to say you’re sorry for just being yourself.
